About Chris

Chris Wainwright studied and performed music as a trumpet player in symphonic band, orchestra, and marching band throughout his elementary, junior high and high school years before picking up the guitar at age 17. It was then that he began writing and performing music live, both in bands and as a singer-songwriter.

Later he went on to study Music Production & Engineering at Berklee College of Music in Boston, receiving a Bachelor of Music with honors. During college he worked as a live sound recording and mix engineer. It was in these roles that he had the pleasure of working with artists and bands like Lettuce, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and Donna De Lory. He has also engineered and mixed recordings at the Bean Town Jazz Festival, Saratoga Jazz Festival, and The Newport Jazz Festival for NPR.

Shortly after graduation, Wainwright returned to work for Berklee full time as a studio maintenance engineer and live sound recording engineer for the Music Technology Division, Berklee Performance center, and Berklee Internet Radio Network before eventually transferring to Berklee’s Valencia campus in Spain. He was promoted to Chief Engineer and Assistant Professor where he taught audio engineering and production techniques in both the Undergraduate Study Abroad and Masters of Contemporary Performance programs. In his role as Chief Engineer, he has had the pleasure of working with and/or recording great artists, producers, and engineers spanning a wide gambit including Patrice Rushen, Clark Germain, Susan Rogers, Salomé Limón, George Massenburg, John McLaughlin, Billy Hart, Pepe de Lucia, and many others.

Today Wainwright continues to write, record, and produce music. He is a monthly blog contributor for Isotope Learn, a writer and contributor for ProMedia Training, and Summer Music Production and Engineering faculty at Interlochen Arts Camp.
